Sydney Roof Repairs
None of us needs to be reminded of the importance of having a roof over our heads. However, as a roof plumber in the Northern suburbs, we’ve seen first-hand how often it is taken for granted. Until things go very wrong.
It is essential to attend to a leak, blockage, hole or any other damage on your roof immediately, no matter how inconsequential it might seem. More often than not, it’s your first and only sign of a much bigger issue looming.

Why are roof leaks a serious problem?
Assuming you don’t have an emergency, you still potentially have a significant problem on your hands. What you see is only part of the picture – we’re sorry to say that the damage is likely far worse underneath the fascia. Rot, condensation and dampness can have serious consequences on the integrity of your home’s structural timber.
Signs you need a professional roof plumber
Call us for your Northern Beaches roof repairs if you detect any of the following:
- Mould
- Water patches on the roof (a sign of water build-up)
- Water spots on the walls outside (often an indication that your step flashing, the area where the wall meets the roof, is compromised)
- Tile breakages
- Gutters, downspouts, tiling or shingle damage
- Ceiling bulges

There are some key reasons you would want a professional undertaking this work instead of embarking on a DIY project.
- Infrastructure that collects and distributes stormwater needs to work efficiently. It should either serve as a resource for you (e.g. watering the garden) or be channelled to the main drainage system for appropriate processing.
- Effectively harnessing stormwater can save you significant costs in water fees.
- A lot of roof and gutter work requires mandatory skills and accreditation.
- Your insurance company is unlikely to cover you for any amateur work that leads to further damage or an entirely new plumbing or structural problem.
With the above in mind, rely on a maintenance plumber from the Killara team!
- 100% plumbing guarantee

What is roof repair?
Age, weather conditions, poor installation and accidents can all result in a roof requiring repair or replacement. Proper repair includes the identification of the root cause, thoroughly assessing the damage, and then using the correct parts and processes to restore function and integrity.
What are some common reasons for roof repair?
Many reasons might call for this line of work. Cracked seals around vents, flashing (the metal strips and pieces installed around joints, skylights etc.), chimneys and deteriorating material can lead to roof leaks and mould build-up. Damaged or entirely missing tiles or shingles can compromise the roof’s ability to shed water and therefore protect the underlying structure. Gutters and downspouts may come loose or damaged and, in doing so, compromise water drainage. Poor quality or badly installed insulation and ventilation can compromise the roof’s health and ability to protect.
How do I know if I need roof repair?
The more obvious signs that you need roof repair include leaks, water stains or build-up, mould issues, missing or damaged tiles and shingles, a sagging or deteriorating roof, obvious wear and tear, such as cracking, caulking or loose objects, and excessive granule loss from shingles. More subtle indications can include the age of the roof and increasing energy bills (as a result of poor ventilation and insulation).
Can I repair my own roof?
We do not recommend you repair your own roof as this can be extremely dangerous work. The Killara Plumbing team has full Working With Height accreditation. We come with the necessary tools and processes that help ensure our safety and that of everyone in the household. Notably, an insurance company is unlikely to cover any DIY work linked to subsequent accidents or damage.
How much does roof repair cost?
It depends on the scale of work required. However, Killara Plumbing maintains transparent and clear costings for all activity undertaken, and we seek your approval before any work is conducted. As a result, there are no billing surprises for anyone!
How long does roof repair take?
Again, this all depends on the nature and scale of work required. One of our team members will conduct a full inspection and provide you with a clear timeline.
Can I prevent the need for roof repair?
- The good news is you can be proactive in helping to minimise the need for roof repairs. Regularly maintain and clean your gutters and downspouts, especially after a storm or during and at the end of Autumn.
- Keep nearby trees trimmed and away from the area.
- Ensure adequate, good-quality insulation and ventilation.
- Keep an eye open for mould or algae and remove before they start to cause roof deterioration.
- If you notice the need for repair work, organise it sooner rather than later. Don’t let it snowball into a bigger issue or an emergency plumbing job.
- Finally – call one of our professional plumbers and organise an annual roof inspection. Prevention is better than cure, especially when discussing something as big and significant as a roof!
